Black Vinyl-Coated Chain Link

The budget-friendly fence that almost disappears against trees and lawns, and that many Charlotte HOAs allow.

Black Vinyl-Coated Chain Link in Charlotte, NC
Short answer

Black vinyl-coated chain link costs more than galvanized but much less than aluminum. The black coating makes it fade into trees and lawn, protects the wire from rust and makes it more acceptable to HOAs. It's a smart choice for long back-property lines, wooded and greenway lots, and dog yards.

Why it works so well here

Charlotte has a lot of wooded back lines, creek edges and common-area borders. A black fence nearly vanishes against tree trunks and shade, so you keep the view while gaining a boundary. It’s also a good match for the black aluminum many homeowners use in front.

  • Black aluminum in front, black chain link in back: same color story at a lower total cost
  • Black chain link with a wood privacy section only where the patio faces a neighbor
  • Garden enclosures that keep dogs and kids out of raised beds

Heights

Usually 4 or 5 feet for residential use, with taller commercial options for ballfields and amenity areas.

On creek and greenway lots

Before laying out a back line near water, we check for SWIM stream buffers, floodplain mapping and storm drainage easements. Fences may be limited or not allowed in some of those areas, and fences can’t impede drainage. See Stream buffers and fences.

Care

Rinse occasionally and trim vines before they get into the fabric. English ivy and wisteria can pull a fence over in a few seasons if left alone.

Questions Charlotte homeowners ask

How is it different from regular chain link?

The wire is coated in black vinyl, and posts and rails are powder-coated black. It looks much less industrial and resists corrosion better.

Is black chain link good for dogs?

Yes. It’s strong, see-through and can include a bottom tension wire and buried dig guard.
