Do I Need a Survey Before Building a Fence?

When a survey is worth the cost, and when you can safely skip it.

Do I Need a Survey Before Building a Fence? in Charlotte, NC
Short answer

You don't always need a survey, but get one when you plan to build within a few feet of the line, can't find property pins, your neighbor disagrees about the line, the old fence looks off, or you're on an irregular or corner lot. A survey costs far less than moving a fence.

What to ask a surveyor for

A boundary survey with the relevant line staked, and pins reset if missing. Share the results with us so we can lay out from stakes.
