Automatic Gate Openers

Swing and slide gate operators with keypads, remotes, safety sensors and battery backup for storm outages.

Automatic Gate Openers in Charlotte, NC
Short answer

An automatic gate opener needs the right operator for the gate's weight and length, a solid gate and posts, power (hard-wired or solar), entrapment safety devices like photo eyes and edges, and a way to open it during an outage. In Charlotte, where summer storms knock out power, battery backup is a smart addition.

Operator types

  • Swing operators: linear arm or articulated arm, single or dual gates
  • Slide operators: rack-and-pinion drives for sliding gates
  • Access controls: keypads, remotes, phone apps, intercoms and vehicle sensors for free exit

Safety

Automatic gates can trap or injure people and pets, so modern installations include safety devices such as photo eyes and contact edges, plus clearly defined travel zones. We design for these from the start and show you how the safety devices work.

Power and storms

Charlotte’s summer thunderstorms and occasional tropical remnants can cut power for hours or days. We recommend battery backup and walk you through the manual release so you’re never locked in or out.

Before automating an existing gate

We inspect hinges, posts and the gate frame. If the gate sags or binds, the opener will fail early. Sometimes the best plan is a new steel or aluminum gate built for automation.

Questions Charlotte homeowners ask

Can any gate be automated?

Only if it’s rigid, well-hung and swings or rolls freely. Sagging wood gates should be rebuilt or reinforced first.

Solar or hard-wired?

Hard-wired is the most reliable. Solar can work on low-use gates with open sky, but heavy tree shade under Charlotte’s oaks limits solar charging.

What happens in a power outage?

Battery backup keeps gates working for a number of cycles. Every operator also has a manual release.
